![]() ![]() Above his head would be clues on how to find him, such as "Look to la luna" ("the moon" in Spanish or Italian and hinting The Pit stage), "Alone is how to find me" (denoting that he is only unlockable in single player mode), "Perfection is the key" (directing towards the double Flawless victory), or "Tip eht fo mottob" ("Bottom of The Pit" spelled backward). Before battles with an opponent he would make his appearance and jump in the middle of the screen in a Sub-Zero win pose. Reptile was hidden in the original Mortal Kombat and thus holds the distinction of being the very first secret character to appear in a versus fighting game. While well-meaning and sincere, his obsession is so important to him that it causes him temporary fits of insanity. Thus, he always remains loyal to Shao Kahn, only obeying other masters to survive and reach his goal of returning Zaterra to its former glory. He is caught in a delusional state of mind, obsessed with finding the last remaining member of his race, or freeing his homeworld of Zaterra from Outworld's grasp. Unlike many other henchmen, Reptile does not strive for power. Said to be physically hideous and repulsive, he is renowned for his great stealth and unquestioning loyalty. I'll take y'alls word on this one.Reptile is a green garbed, humanoid reptilian creature that embodies the archetype of the unhappy underling. Aesthetically is looks great but it plays like a third party rip-off. I think they had a good idea on paper and they did an amazing job at world building but this is some of the worst gameplay I have ever experienced. ![]() I never played past the first level because this game is hard as shit. I did always hate that they reused Goro as the sub-boss, but overall it's a really fun game to play. There were a lot of fascinating characters that sadly got swept away after this game. Trilogy feels less like an official game and more like a fun treat made for the fans.Ĥ is a mixed bag but more good than bad for me. Definitely pandered to the western audience for this one. The costume designs, the music, the fatalities, the characters, the stages, friendships, all top notch.ģ had some cool designs but it lacked that martial arts aesthetic. I didn't actually play most of these until high school/early adulthood, but MK2 is hands down my favorite. Ultimately a time of working out the bugs, before roaring back in the PS2 era with DA/Deception/Shaolin/Armageddon, and then the “modern renaissance” of 9/X/11. And while I love trilogy for being so wild, it’s also a kind of broken capstone to the 16 bit era series, not like “here’s MK for the future!” Game design wise, you have attempts at story games that range from uneven (Myth) to downright terrible (Forces), and a transition to 3D in 4 that while it’s not as bad as people made out at the time, it wasn’t genre defining like MK had been in the past. To the point where for the first time they let you turn OFF gameplay features in the menu to compensate. The games all of a sudden look and sound almost arcade accurate, but characters like Shang Tsung and even doing fatalities fall into this game rhythm breaking hell. In terms of tech, MK is for the first time faced with loading times. ![]() I mean, it’s an era of growing pains right? In terms of both technology and design. ![]() Commissions/Requests - r/FanOfTheJoystick Please be mindful about spoilers, don't put them in the post title.Ĭlear theme?
